Call for Papers

The Somali Disaster Management Agency and Mogadishu University invite researchers to participate in the 1st Disaster Research Conference, focusing on Building Resilient Communities to Disasters. This conference aims to enhance disaster management strategies, promote community resilience, and develop evidence-based policy recommendations to mitigate the impact of both natural and human-made disasters.

Researchers from various fields are encouraged to submit their work to contribute to this critical dialogue. We welcome abstracts that address the conference theme, with a particular interest in studies that explore innovative approaches to disaster resilience.

Areas of Research Conference

We invite scholars, researchers, and practitioners to submit papers that explore pertinent themes, including but not limited to the following:

  • Natural hazards such as Drought, Floods and Tropical Cyclones.
  • Socialization of responsibility for risk and resilience, disaster governance and the emerging construct of adaptive resilience.
  • Disaster-induced migration and resettlement: challenges and solutions.
  • Technological innovations for rapid needs assessment in disaster zones.
  • Role of cultural heritage in community resilience and identity.
  • Sociocultural dynamics of disaster aftermath and preparedness; urban disaster risk and resilience โ–ช Health risks from disasters.
  • Impact of Cash Transfer Programmes on resilience building.

Submission Guidelines

Abstract: Please submit an abstract of 250 words, summarizing the main argument, research methodology, and key recommendations. Paper Length:

  • Submissions should range between 4,000 and 6,000 words, inclusive of references. Formatting: Utilize Times New Roman font, size 12, double-spacing, and maintain one inch margins.
  • Language: Submissions in Somali, Arabic or English are accepted. Somali and Arabic submissions should include an English abstract.
  • Originality: Ensure the originality of your work through proper citations. Plagiarized submissions will be disqualified. Authors must submit empirical research supported by evidence and data. Please refrain from submitting papers al-ready under consideration by other journals. Previously published papers will not be accepted. Researchers holding masterโ€™s or PhD degrees with at least one prior publication are encouraged to participate.
  • Biography: Include a brief biography (maximum 150 words) outlining your academic and professional background.
  • Review Process: Each paper will undergo a thorough peer review process, with selections based on academic merit and alignment with the objectives and themes of ๐—ฆ๐——๐—ฅ๐—– 2024.

  • Final submission date for the abstract: 25 July 2024
  • Notification of abstract acceptance: 25 August 2024
  • Final submission date for research papers: 30 September 2024
  • Notification of research paper acceptance: 30 October 2024
  • Conference date: 06โ€“07 November 2024
